Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage works on noticeable muscle tension, using firmer pressure to reach the deeper layers of muscle and fascia, relieving chronic aches and pains. It focuses on chronic pain, recovery from injury and postural problems, by targeting specific groups of muscles. Deep tissue techniques also help to break down scar tissue and muscle adhesions which can disrupt circulation, causing pain, limited range of motion, and inflammation. Deep tissue massage usually starts with a lighter pressure to warm up the muscles, followed by specific techniques to release adhesions and realign muscle fibres. It may involve some discomfort if the muscles are particularly tight, and if the body responds by tensing. Deep tissue may not be suitable for some clients with medical conditions.

Sports massage can be used to address specific sports type injury, poor postural patterns and general recovery of the muscles after exercise. Athletes can use sports massage to prepare for and recover from sports events by having pre-event and/or post event massages. Brazilian Lymphatic Contouring Massage

Brazilian lymphatic massage aids movement of fluid into the lymphatic system, transporting it to the return blood circulation and eliminating it in the urine. The benefits include relaxation, reduced oedema, detoxification, cellulite reduction, reduced leg pain and improved skin tone.

Each body responds differently and this is directly connected to the amount of retained fluid, the client's activity level and hydration status. Each client will have a distinct result based on lifestyle and genetic structure. Clients who already have healthy habits tend to have less fluid retention so may start with one session a week. Others may have to reassess in the following week to see if the results are still present and then indicate 2, 3 or maybe 4 sessions per week until results are sustained. Results can last up to 10 days.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy massage can help a woman adapt to the changes that occur in her body during pregnancy, which can cause discomfort. As the abdomen grows the body's centre of gravity shifts, causing changes in posture to realign your centre of gravity over the hips. The resulting stress on the joints and muscles can cause lower back, pelvic, neck, shoulder or sciatic nerve pain. Pelvic ligaments also relax and stretch to accommodate the growing baby, which can cause sharp pains around the pelvis. Massage can relieve these aches and pains but must be carried out by a suitably qualified therapist. The difference in techniques used in a pregnancy massage, compared to regular massage is the placement of pressure on specific body parts during pregnancy; the wrists or ankles, for example, can prompt contractions, so subtle movements are used to prevent complications. This is generally a light and relaxing massage carried out in a side-lying position.

This can be combined with pregnanyc aromatherapy to ease nausea, anxiety and itchy skin due to stretching.

Induction Massage

Induction Massage

Still no sign of your bundle of joy making an appearance? Not wanting a medical induction? Come and have an induction massage from 39 weeks to help things move in the right direction. The days leading up to labour can be uncomfortable and stressful, and while pregnancy generally lasts 40 weeks, this can vary from around 37 up to 42 weeks. Induction massage must be carried out by someone who is suitably qualified and experienced, but you and your baby will be in safe hands as I was a nurse and a midwife.

Induction massage may assist with the natural transition into labour by working on specific acupressure points in the back, feet and hands, helping to open up the pelvic area, allowing more room for the baby to fully engage and stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system to encourage labour. This acupressure may promote uterine contractions and encourage labour to happen naturally.

It will also help reduce stress hormones and increase oxytocin release which is required for childbirth and bonding, and induces deep relaxation to allow the body to do what it needs to do.
